The Advanced Tether Experiment (ATEx) was designed and built by the Naval Center for Space Technology (NCST).ATEx had three mission objectives:
- Demonstrate tether system stability and control.
- Demonstrate end-body attitude determination and control.
- Fly a tether designed for survivability.
TiNi Rotary Actuator used to initiate deployment of the STEX satellite from the Taurus Launch Vehicle. Also, TiNi Frangibolts & Pinpullers used to jettison the ATEX experiment from STEX.
