On
Thursday, September 22, 2005, an Orbital Minotaur rocket was successfully
launched from California’s Vandenberg Air Force Base, boosting the STP-R1
small satellite into orbit. The STP-R1 satellite is a technology
demonstration project of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
The launch was commissioned by the U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems
Center Detachment 12 (SMC Det 12).A host of appendages were successfully deployed using FC4 Frangibolts including the spacecraft solar panels and high gain antennae.
