Latching Valve

TiNi’s latching valve uses a pair of Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) elements that act in opposition to Open and Close the Valve.  Latching is accomplished by coupling the movement generated by the SMA to a  modified Belleville washer that has two stable states corresponding to the Open and Closed positions.  The particular embodiment shown here was developed for NASA GSFC and is intended to be mounted on a manifold assembly.  It is designed to Open and Close the gas flow by moving a specially designed Pintle Tip into and away from a corresponding orifice.
