Pinpuller Model P5-404-6S-SM

This is a special Pinpuller configuration developed for the Deutsches Zentrum for Luft und Raumfahrt (German Center for Air and Space Travel).  It was used on the European Space Agencies Mars Express mission aboard the Beagle 2 lander.  Its function was to deploy the piercing ram which penetrates the Martian surface to withdraw samples for scientific analysis.  The unique square flange was incorporated so that the Pinpuller could be used as a drop in replacement for an alternate device.
