Rotary Model R4-458-2RS The Rotary Actuator was custom developed for the STEX (Space Technology Experiment) satellite built for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). Four TiNi Rotary Actuators were successfully used to initiate deployment of the STEX satellite from the Taurus launch vehicle in October of 1998. Each Rotary Actuator uses TiNi’s patented trigger mechanism to rotate the drive pin with 4 in-lbs of torque and 45o of rotation. Reset is achieved by manually counter rotating the pin using a tool provided by TiNi Aerospace.
