Mechanical Redundancy

Frangibolt® in Parallel


The figure to the right shows how a simple clam shell type mechanism may be used to achieve mechanical redundancy with the Frangibolt.
In this case, actuation of either Frangibolt causes the tie down rod to slip past its support and release the deployable.


This type of mechanism may also be used to increase (leverage) the load holding capability of the Actuator.  This is possible because the Actuator is not placed directly in the load path but rather used to support only a vector component of the overall load generated by the deployable.

Note that this type of mechanism may be configured in many different ways to suit specific application requirements.
